Family Freedom Intensive FAQ

What is the purpose of the Family Freedom Intensive?

The Family Freedom Intensive is designed to promote understanding, honesty, and relational growth between individuals struggling with sexual and relational brokenness and their family members. Our experience clearly shows that family involvement in the recovery process has a decided impact on future success.

Who is the Family Freedom Intensive designed for?

The workshop is designed for the parents of teens or adults who are struggling with sexual and relational sin. If a teen or adult child is willing to work on family issues, we welcome the family to participate as a group. It may be appropriate for siblings or other closely connected family members to attend also. If a son or daughter is unwilling to be here, we don't see it as productive for them to attend. In that case we encourage the parents to attend without them to focus on their own journey of healing. We pre-screen adolescent participants to make sure they are open to attending.

How many people are in each workshop?

The group size and make-up varies from workshop to workshop. A typical group might have eight to ten participants, representing two to four families. Enrollment is limited to ensure the proper group dynamics for the workshop.

I have a teenage daughter or son. Will there be other teens there?

That depends on who decides to attend the workshop. Sometimes we have enough adolescents to have break-out groups, while at other times the group is made up primarily of parents.

What can I expect in the Family Freedom Intensive?

The content of the workshop is tailored to focus on the specific needs of those in attendance. Each instructional session opens with a brief lecture followed by interactive participation, and individual assignments reinforce and personalize each topic. Choice of topics ultimately depends on the needs of the group, but the topics usually include:

  • Powerlessness – Learning about what we can and can’t control, and acknowledging our helplessness to “fix” ourselves or anyone else in our own strength.
  • Moral Inventories – An excellent tool for examining difficult situations and challenging emotions.
  • Identity in Christ – Our true identity is found in Christ alone, not in another human being.
  • Grieving – The process of grieving for lost dreams and expectations, as well as for genuine wounds that have been inflicted upon us.
  • Timelines – Exploring past events which have led to present difficulties.
  • Forgiveness – Forgiveness is presented as the start of a process, not as a one-time event.
  • Boundaries – Where do I end and you begin?  Where do I draw the line?  Setting up a contract with your loved one.
