Finding Local Help
Finding local counselors and support groups can be a challenging process, and the best referrals usually come by word of mouth. Here are some pointers on looking for local help:
- Try phoning local churches, especially larger congregations, to see what counseling resources are available at the church or who they usually refer their members to.
- Exodus, the referral network of which we are a member, Focus on the Family, and the American Association of Christian Counselors may also be able to point you to a local referral.
- Before choosing a counselor or group, be sure to interview the counselor or group leader to find out what their stance is on sexual issues. Just because you were referred to them by a Christian organization doesn’t necessarily mean they have a biblical point of view on sexuality.
